MUSIC, SCORING & SOUND DESIGN
Jeremy Black is a US-born music producer and composer living in Berlin. Born into a musical family, he started piano lessons at the age of five and the drums soon after. In high school he was mentored by Jazz legend John Scofield with whose daughter he had started a punk band with. He went on to study Music Production at Berklee School of Music in Boston, where he met Sam Cohen (Prod. Kevin Morby, Danger Mouse) and Jesse Gallagher with whom he founded the psych-pop group Apollo Sunshine. Signed by the time they graduated, they came up in the early 2000s with the likes of The National and The Strokes. They received critically acclaimed success, a pivotal placement in Breaking Bad, signed a publishing deal with Domino, and spent eight years touring the world. The band called it quits in 2010 and Black decided to open Coyote Hearing Studio in Oakland, California to pursue his dream of becoming a full-time music producer.
He has worked with dozens of established artist over the years including members of Bon Iver and The National, Ezra Furman, Hauschka, Dave Harrington, FJAAK, Dr. Dog, White Denim, Peking Duk and Geographer. In 2016 he was invited to participate in Bon Iver and The National’s collaborative music festival, later dubbed PEOPLE. Since then, Black has become a close member of Justin Vernon’s (Bon Iver) creative group and works regularly at his Wisconsin studio. The festival once again took place in August of 2018 where Black composed a piece of music for the world's most advanced spatial sound venue MONOM: A room built with 48 omni-directional speakers suspended throughout the venue. He also spent time producing new music with Noah Goldstein (Kanye West) and Francis Farewell Starlite (Francis and the Lights) as well as working on various projects with Beirut’s Zach Condon, LIIIMA and with members of Kings of Convenience.
